Throughout its long and storied past, it has been known as a green and pleasant land, a sceptered isle, and a nation of shopkeepers. It has stood as a beacon of democracy and a bastion of ideological freedom. The Magna Carta, the King James Bible, and the welfare state were all conceived here. The Great Britain men's national basketball team is governed by a body formed through a partnership of the national basketball organizations of England (England Basketball), Scotland, and Wales. Great Britain’s head coach is Chris Finch of the NBA’s Houston Rockets. The team’s best-known player is NBA small forward Luol Deng. Another notable figure is Benjamin “Ben” Gordon, a British-American professional basketball player who currently plays for the Detroit Pistons in the NBA.

Historic Chester, dating back more than 2,000 years to Roman times, is an excellent base for exploring Northwest England and North Wales. Liverpool is just a 30-minute ride from Chester, making it a convenient and memorable day trip. A visit to Liverpool includes iconic sites like The Cavern—birthplace of The Beatles—and the starting point of their famous Magical Mystery Tour.
