The Miami University (OH) Redhawks Women’s basketball team enjoyed a once-in-a-lifetime trip to in Italy May 16-25. The team spent time in 3 different cities in Italy – Rome, Florence/Montecatini and Venice and played 3 games on the trip, one in each destination, against top Italian women’s teams. On the first leg of the trip while in Rome the group enjoyed a victory over the Lazio All Stars.

The team also saw the all the sites and history Rome has to offer including visits to the Colosseum, the Roman Forum and the Vatican. After spending a couple of days in Rome the group then traveled to Montecatini near Florence. The earned another victory in Florence against a Luca Select team by a comfortable margin. While in the Florence area the team took in the beautiful scenery and sights like Duomo, Ponte Vecchio, the Oltrarno, the Palazzo Vecchio, Piazza della Signoria and of course Piazza Michelangelo. And they also spent a day visiting the leaning Tower of Pisa followed by a visit to the popular beach resort town of Viareggio. The team finished up the trip with a visit to Venice.

While in Venice the team played a strong Palladio Basketball Club team from Italy and lost a close game in the final seconds. The team wrapped up the trip with some amazing sightseeing in Venice including boat rides on its famous canals and seeing San Marco Church/Square and the Rialto Bridge.

Coach Cleve Wright summarized the trip saying, “Our trip to ITALY was filled with great team bonding, unforgettable life experiences, and good competition. This was my first trip taking a team overseas and Loek and Mike did a great job of walking us through the process prior to the trip. Our tour manager while in Italy was fantastic and I know our players will be talking about ITALY for a long time!”

The team posted some great pictures and video blogs about the trip in their website – Click here to see these.
