The Indiana University Women's Basketball team traveled to Italy with Premier International Tour
The Indiana University Women's Basketball team traveled to Italy with Premier International Tours August 2-11, 2017. The Hoosiers made stops in Rome, Florence and Venice along with excursions to Siena and Pisa. They also played three games while overseas, resulting in a 3-0 record against international opponents. The first stop for the team was Rome, where the Hoosiers toured Circo Massimo, Palatine Hill, the Roman Forum and the Colosseum, as well as spending an entire day in Vatican City, exploring St. Peter's Square, St. Peter's Basilica and the Vatican Museums where they were able to see the Sistine Chapel. On the way to their next destination, Florence, the group stopped in Sienna for a nice Italian meal and some sightseeing in Sienna before arriving in Florence.
While in Florence the team played two of its games and won in convincing fashion. The group also took in some sightseeing in Florence where they visited the Duomo, Ponte Vecchio, the Oltrarno, the Palazzo Vecchio, Piazza della Signoria and of course Piazza Michelangelo. The group then made a day trip to Pisa to see the Leaning Tower of Pisa, followed by a visit to the seaside resort town of Viareggio. After Florence the group headed to its last stop in Venice. The team played their third game of the tour while in Venice against Veneto Stars, which was the most competitive game of the trip. In Venice the team explored the narrow streets and canals of Venice, including gondola rides, along with some great shopping for souvenirs for family and friends back home.
Liz Honegger, Director of Basketball Operations, said after the trip, “We had a tremendous experience, especially for the money we spent. Other companies had the cost per person around $5k which didn’t include all expenses. We traveled with Premier International Tours for less than $3k per person and had a wonderful experience. I would highly recommend Premier International Tours to any basketball team looking to do a foreign tour.”
